The art work I created over the years always followed the same pattern:

After awhile I would feel like a factory worker doing the same thing over and over.

And then Barbie came into my life when I happened across The 5th Annual Altered Barbie Show in San Francisco in 2007. Not only can I paint , work with clay and plaster I can also do her make-up, hair do, make clothes, cut in piece and chop, slice and dice her. I am never bored with Barbie.

And if all of that was not enough for motivation, now I can continue to spend money at the thrift stores, garage sales and flea markets without feeling guilty for spending money on things I don’t need. I have no particular connection with Barbie. I did not have one when I was a kid and had no desire for one.

I am not affiliated with any of the doll makers or the makers of the props or accessories I put in my pieces. I use these objects as my canvas.

I love the idea of using recycled materials for my work.

The Gallery of The Barbie Lady is at 36902 South Nowlens Bridge Road, Marquam, Oregon. I show the pieces I am currently working on, some of the pieces that are rated R or X and some altered Barbie creations by other artists. I have no particular “hours” so, either email me at lavonnesbarbies@yahoo.com to make arrangements or call me at 415 305 2821 and let me know when you want me to be open. I will open the gallery for you, or a group.

My work is also displayed in the window of the Green Store in downtown Silvertown, Oregon located at 208 Main Street. The store has typical merchant hours but the window can be viewed anytime, day or night.

If you want to give a “Party” for some friends/family/co-workers/brides maids etc, reserve an Altered Barbie Workshop where each of you create your own Altered Barbie Diorama. The workshop should be a minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 8. The cost is $40.00 per person payable in advance and includes all materials. The class lasts between 1 ˝ and 2 hours. Call 415 305 2821 or email me at lavonnesbarbies@yahoo.com and let me know what day and time you want your party/workshop.
